Dear Mr Carmichael
FOOTWAY PARKING IN THE ALBERTS ON MONDAY, 18 JULY 2005
Thank you for your letter PC/Alberts of 11 August which I have discussed with the Association's Street Representatives from the roads concerned.
We fully appreciate your enforcement predicament but the pressure on parking spaces in our area, especially in the evenings, still remains. Eleven years ago this led to the current agreement concluded by local councillors. The agreement has served us well and incidents such as that on 18 July have been few if any. None of us I think would want to see a situation where residents felt forced to exercise their right to park totally on a single yellow line on the highway outside CPZ hours in narrow stretches of road. This would inevitably block the passage of traffic and the resulting chaos would perforce involve the police using their public law and order powers.
I do not know the property that sparked the 18 July incident based on access complaints but, in recent times, a similar concern was amicably resolved by the painting of a single white line outside the front door of 26 Albert Road which opens directly onto the Beatrice Road cul-de-sac. Perhaps I and Michael Potter could discuss whether this is a practical answer to this particular concern?
It is the Association's intention to issue a special newsletter about the footway parking problem and to bring home to residents the consequences of inconsiderate parking. General advice will also be posted on our website together with the text of the 1994 agreement to clarify what is and what is not allowed.
I would like to tell the people whose details I recorded that their PCN's issued on 18 July will be cancelled - would I be correct in saying that they will receive formal notification to this effect from you?
Yours sincerely
David Shaw
